The Fine Print

Privacy Policy

A plain account of what the site collects when you read it, what it does with that, and what you can do about it.

What We Collect

When you visit, the site gathers the kind of basic information any web server logs: your IP address, the page you requested, the browser you arrived in, and a small cookie set by our analytics provider. We do not collect names, email addresses, or any personally identifying details unless you send them to us yourself — for example, by writing in.

How We Use It

That information helps us understand which articles readers actually use, which pages need revising, and how the site is performing on different devices. It is read in aggregate. The point is not to know who you are; the point is to know whether the writing is doing its job.

Third Parties

A handful of third-party services touch the site. Google Analytics records page views and basic engagement. Affiliate networks set cookies on outbound clicks to recommended tools so the publication can be credited for a referral. Each of those vendors has its own privacy policy and its own promises; we choose them carefully, but they are not part of this publication and we cannot speak for everything they do.

Your Choices

You can decline cookies in your browser settings, use private browsing, or install a tracker blocker; none of those will keep you from reading the articles. If you would like to know what information we hold about a visit you made, or have a concern about how the site behaved, write to us and we will sort it out.

Questions, requests, and complaints can be sent to [email protected]. We read every note that comes in.
